Possible August Release Date For The Hunger Games DVD

While the Hunger Games is still doing well in cinemas, talk has already started for the release date on DVD. And according to filmonic.com Lionsgate is thinking of a August release.
Here is what they have said on filmonic.com:

The August date comes courtesy of Amazon Germany which lists The Hunger Games DVD release date for August 23rd. Amazon US and UK don’t have any date listed, but we can probably assume Lionsgate will aim to launch the DVD and Blu-ray at a similar time around the world as they did with the movie itself.
In a recently interview with Collider director Gary Ross said there won’t be many deleted scenes featured in the special features and “there weren’t many scenes that I shot that were cut.” However he said “there’ll be a lot of cool supplemental materials on the DVD, but I don’t think I’ll be putting in other scenes that got dropped.”

FOUR Hunger Games films planned

Lionsgate has said that if the Hunger Games (1#) experinces success then they will turn the three novels into four movies. This was first reporetd by deadline in a meeting with Wallstreet. And Lionsgate has just confirmed that they had baught the rights for four movies but have yet to say which they will be splitting although it is most likley Mockingjay.
Of course if the first hunger games film does badly there is a chance that all of this will be cancled.

Lets hope not!!!

New photo of Katniss from the Hunger Games movie

Here is the most recent shot of Katniss, presumably hunting in district twelve (wooden bow, plain clothing). I think Jennifer Lawrence has really pulled of Katniss and looks very sure with a bow!

Book of the Month- November 2011: The Hunger Games by Sazanne Collins

This months book of the month is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

Genre: Distopia/Action/Adventure

Released: September 14th 2008

PLOT:
Hunger games.jpgIn a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss's young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives. Collins's characters are completely realistic and sympathetic as they form alliances and friendships in the face of overwhelming odds; the plot is tense, dramatic, and engrossing.

Polls are now open for our December book of the month, so get voting! And don't forget to comment on your view of this book!

Rapunzels Opinion:

Spoiler Alerts are written in purple and when the spoiler is over i have put a note in blue.

So I want to start this review by saying that I adored this book but not the series. The premise of the Hunger Games is one made up of brilliance and i adored Katniss. But the whole series? Not so much. The reason for this is both Gale and Peeta.

(*Spoiler Alert*)

I ship KatnissXGale and the fact that she ends up with Peeta just bothers me. And for so long time and so much I can not stress it enough.  I would not have even minded Finnik that much just not Peeta. I mean his special talent is 'camoflage' (Scary). Anyway lets not get bogged down in that

(*Spoiler over*)

But once I put all of that aside -very hard- I was able to fully appreciate how wonderful the rest of the characters where and how much I had enjoyed the actual story line.
Katniss really was a wonderful character to have the story told from. As you would know from my previous review I like my characters strong and Katniss fit that bill while being very original. One of my favourite scenes in the book where this is really demonstrated is after the TV interview and they are 'discussing' (more like yelling) about Peeta declaring his love for Katniss. Sure she is unhappy at first but after  that she manages to put her pettiness aside and look at the big picture. She never annoyed me by getting dragged down by her problems but just gave them thought and then put them aside until a later time.

(*Spoiler Alert*)

And when rue died, I was so upset (for me a real trophy to the story and how much I liked these character) and this was despite that fact that someone -names shall not be named- told me she died.

(*Spoiler over*)

When I was reading the book the whole time she was actually inside the games I spent it on the edge of my seat. I put this down to Suzanne Collins engrossing writing and the story line. I would practically anyone who likes a good book with action, a badass heroine, amazing story line and a smidge of romance.

Hunger Games Movie: New Posters and Synopsis

Here is the new synopsis for the Hunger Games movie:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.  Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.  If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, with a screenplay by Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik.  Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 12 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following. It has spent more than 157 consecutive weeks/more than three consecutive years to date on The New York Times bestseller list since its publication in September 2008, and has also appeared consistently on USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists.

Rue & Katnis - Hunger Games fan made scene

Found this on youtube, it's pretty good. Here's some of the description from the youtube video:

"I am a big fan of the Hunger Games books and am excited for the film from Lionsgate. This was done in hopes that the actors would get a chance to audition for the film. Danielle Chuchran was able to audition for Gary Ross. Congratulations to Jennifer Lawrence and Amandla Stenberg on landing the roles.

I know that Rue is described as being dark skinned in the book, but I wanted to show Savanna's acting. I think she would make a good Prim though."

US Magazine Lenny Kravitz on Jennifer Lawrence in the Hunger Games

In an interview with US Magazine, Lenny Kravitz mentions the scene where Cinna and Katniss meet for the first time and compares Jennifer to a young Meryl Streep!
US: How has it been working with Jennifer Lawrence?
LK: Oh man, I shot a scene with her yesterday and it was just the two of us, where our characters meet, and she is unbelievable. I hate comparisons, but she is a young Meryl Streep. This girl is for real and just acting with her, it just brought it to a level where she pulled me in so deeply, and the scene just became so real and at the end we had to pop out of it. It was someplace we had gone into and it was really beautiful. I learned actually a lot from her yesterday and she is fantastic.
US: You knew her through Zoe before you started filming, right?
LK: Yes, and that makes it even more odd. She is a family friend and all of the sudden you have to be serious because when we are all together we are all quite silly. My daughter, her friends…we are quite a silly bunch, but it was great.

Us: What has it been like shooting your scenes in the Capitol world?
LK: I am going to leave that to surprise, I am sure the director would want to talk about it himself but he is an amazing director, he really has a way of pulling things out of the actors, he is an actor himself, so he comes from that, he was trained by the best. He is director that knows how to do everyone else’s job as well, so he knows what he is talking about and I like that because I identify with that. When it comes to music, I can get up on stage and play everyone’s parts for them, well because I play it in the studio, I can just identify with getting a grip on what is happening.
Us: Has the movie stayed true to the book do you think?
LK: I’ve only seen my part, but I think it is great.
